Under the road, under the river, under the runway

Georgia is building: fiber to every county, new plants and the power to run them, subdivisions on what was pasture, water and sewer stretched to meet them. Every one of those lines has to cross a road, a railroad, a creek or a finished lot, and open-cutting is not an option there. A directional bore places the line underneath from two small pits, steered and tracked the whole way, and the surface is never opened. That is the work Davis Underground Solutions, Inc. has done across the state for years, for utilities, contractors, public agencies and property owners.

What the crews install

  • Fiber-optic duct and drops for carriers, cooperatives and county broadband builds.
  • Electrical conduit: feeders, services, duct banks, site lighting, solar collection circuits.
  • Water mains and services under highways, driveways and creeks.
  • Sewer force mains, laterals and cased gravity crossings.
  • Gas mains and services for the state's gas utilities.
  • Steel casings under GDOT routes, railroads and runways by auger bore.

Each has its own page: start with directional drilling, fiber optic cable drilling and auger boring, or pick a service from the menu.

Three states in one

Georgia is three different drilling states stacked on top of each other. North of the Fall Line, which runs roughly Columbus to Macon to Augusta, the Piedmont puts red clay over saprolite over granite and gneiss, and the rock can sit a few feet down or forty. South of that line the Coastal Plain is sand, clay and marl with a high water table and almost no rock. In the northwest corner the ridges are limestone and shale, with the caves to prove it. The bit, the fluid and the production rate all change with the region, which is why the first question on any estimate is the address.

Why a Georgia contractor

Davis Underground Solutions, Inc. is headquartered in Powder Springs, west of Atlanta, and runs the whole state. Metro Atlanta and the counties around it are home range with no mobilization fee; Columbus, Macon, Augusta, Savannah, Albany, Valdosta and everywhere between are a quoted mobilization and a crew that has already been there. Being the drilling company that actually picks up the phone and shows up is most of why the company works across Georgia. Davis Underground Solutions has the equipment list, the service-area map and photos from recent runs. Every form on this site and every call to (678) 264-3333 goes straight to the company. Estimates are free.

How a job runs

  1. Call (678) 264-3333 or send the project through the form. You hear back within 24 hours.
  2. A site walk or a review of the drawings, then a written estimate with any mobilization stated up front.
  3. Georgia 811, the right-of-way or railroad permit, and the bore plan.
  4. The bore: pits, tracked pilot hole, reaming, pull-back, restoration.
  5. Proofing, testing where required, and an as-built if the owner wants one.

Who we drill for in Georgia

Every drilling and boring service in Georgia

Directional Drilling

Horizontal directional drilling (HDD): a steered bore between two small pits that puts conduit, pipe and cable under roads, driveways, parking lots and landscaping with no open trench.

Horizontal Drilling

Horizontal drilling for any line that has to cross something it cannot cut through: a street, a slab, a canal, a stand of trees. Entry pit, exit pit, nothing opened in between.

Directional Boring

Directional boring is the small-rig end of HDD: short, shallow bores for service lines, sleeves and conduit on residential and light-commercial lots.

Underground Drilling

Underground drilling for new utilities where the surface is spoken for: tracked, steered bores placed under whatever is already built on top.

Fiber Optic Cable Drilling

Fiber duct and drop conduit installed by directional drill for carriers, co-ops, campuses and developments: long shots along the right-of-way, short shots to the building.

Electrical Conduit Drilling

PVC and HDPE electrical conduit bored under pavement for primary feeds, secondary services, site lighting and EV charging circuits.

Underground Conduit Drilling

Single ducts and multi-duct bundles pulled through one reamed bore: communications, power, controls and spares placed together under the obstacle.

Structured Cable Drilling

Conduit between buildings for structured cabling, campus networks, security and controls, bored under courtyards, drives and parking rather than cut across them.

Utility Drilling

Utility drilling for water, sewer, gas, power and telecom owners: permitted road crossings, mains under live streets, services to the meter.

Communications Drilling

Communications conduit and cable placed by directional drill: telecom, cable TV, cell-site backhaul and private networks, under roads and lots.

Missile Boring

Missile boring (pneumatic piercing) drives a steel mole through the soil for short, straight, shallow runs under a driveway or sidewalk: the quickest way to sleeve a lawn or a walk.

Auger Boring and Drilling

Cased auger bores for road, highway and railroad crossings and for gravity sewer that has to hold an exact grade: a straight steel casing jacked from a pit.

Sewer, Water and Drain Lines

New water services and mains, sewer force mains and laterals, and storm drains installed under roads, driveways and yards without trenching them open.

Length of the run, what is being installed (conduit, duct, water, sewer, gas), what it has to cross, and where the plans stand. A crew that bores for a living can usually price it from that and a site walk.
